Urban Local Body Election: It has been reported that the date for the Urban Local Body Election to be held in Tamil Nadu will be announced this evening.

In Tamil Nadu, elections were not held for the local bodies at the end of their tenure. In this case, the first local elections were held in all the districts except the newly created 9 districts. This was followed by rural local government elections in Nellai, Villupuram, Kanchipuram, Vellore Tenkasi, Kallakurichi, Chengalpattu, Ranipettai and Tirupati on October 6 and 9 last year.

Following this, the State Election Commission is making serious efforts to hold elections for all urban local bodies in Tamil Nadu, including 21 corporations, 138 municipalities and 490 municipalities. Held an all-party meeting in this regard.

Meanwhile, a case has been filed in the Chennai High Court seeking a ban on holding local body elections in view of the corona spread. However, the apex court said it could not impose the ban as the petition related to the local elections was pending in the Supreme Court. The judges commented that the situation was not currently as bad as the second wave and could order the Election Commission to follow the Corona guidelines.
