Of the total of 208 attacks recorded throughout 2022, around 85% were committed against Christians (175 cases), of which those against Catholics account for 3 out of every 4 (74.52%). On the other hand, attacks against Jews or Muslims have decreased.
The OLRC classifies events contrary to religious freedom according to their different characteristics. The cases that he considers “most sensitive” are the 4 that have involved physical violence and directed only against Catholics.
In addition, more than 35 attacks on places of worship or against religious symbols have been recorded, which represents an increase of 40% compared to the previous year. Of them, 31 were against Catholics.
The chapter of humiliation of believers (25 cases) remains more or less stable compared to 2021, when 22 episodes were recorded. On the other hand, the OLRC has managed to identify 52 cases of ridicule (44 against Catholics, 8 against Christians of other confessions and 1 against Jews).
