Baghdad / Obelisk Event: The Assyrian Democratic Movement condemned, on Thursday, the burning of the Holy Quran in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, by an extremist.
The movement said in a statement, “Such immoral behavior has nothing to do with the Christian component, nor with the tolerant concepts of the Christian religion and the teachings of Christ.”
Under the slogan of freedom of opinion, Araaat believes that the aim of this behavior is to stir up sectarian and religious strife among the components of societies.
Such actions do not fall under the terms of freedom of expression or demonstration, because freedom does not mean in any way an offense to religious beliefs.
A Swede of Iraqi origin, on Wednesday, under the protection of the authorities and in front of about 200 Muslims, tore up and burn the Holy Qur’an outside the main mosque in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
Respecting the beliefs of others is crucial to promoting understanding and harmony and avoiding conflicts, which is surprising from the Swedish authorities’ negative move towards provoking religious hatred.
Even in Sweden, people come from diverse backgrounds and have different beliefs shaped by their experiences, so accepting that diversity of beliefs is a natural part of human existence. .
Instead of focusing on common values, in a country like Sweden they are marginalized and focus only on differences.
Burning the Qur’an does not encourage inclusiveness, respect and understanding, and cancels initiatives that promote dialogue and events between religions and cultures, and cooperation between different groups.
