Darío Gómez, known as the King of Heartbreak, had several loves throughout his life. His first wife was Martha Nubia, who did not believe in his talent and did not support him on his musical journey.
“She always detested me in music. When I started recording my first little album, while I was still with her – in 1976 – I always told her: ‘Negra, I recorded for the first time, listen to it’ (…) And she says to me: ‘Listen to this, he thinks he is an artist. That’s not for anyone. I hear him very bad’,” revealed the singer before his death on the show Se dice de mí on Caracol Televisión.
After this breakup, the artist gave love another chance and met Olga Lucía Arcila, who became his second wife and was his manager.
Things with Arcila came to an end and Darío Gómez got divorced. Some time later, the King of Heartbreak found his new love: Nini Johana Vargas, who was his last romantic partner.
“I met Darío at the age of 10. Let’s say we had some family closeness. We moved to Medellín due to the violence. At that moment, it was Darío who provided us that support. We spent a few months here in Medellín. Later, we moved to another city. I didn’t see Darío again for many years. More than 5 years. When I was 16, I saw Darío again and that’s when he started to win me over. He dedicated songs to me, he invited me out, to a romantic dinner,” the widow said in an interview with La Red.
Nini Yohana Vargas remembers Darío Gómez with much love. She still recalls the moments before he died of a sudden heart attack. A year ago, to mark the first anniversary of his death, the widow posted a touching video on her Instagram profile showing recordings from the security cameras of her home, where the King of Heartbreak is seen in his house.
These images moved many netizens and followers of Darío Gómez, who continue to mourn his unexpected passing to this day.
