Remembering John Ashton: ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ Star Passes Away at 76

John Ashton, the American actor known for his role as Detective Sergeant John Taggart in the ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ film franchise, passed away at the age of 76, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to his representative, Alan Somers, Ashton died from cancer last Thursday in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was 76 years old.

Ashton not only played Sergeant John Taggart in various installments of the film series starring Eddie Murphy, but also appeared in the films ‘An Eye for an Eye’ (1973), ‘So Evil, My Sister’ (1974), ‘Cat Murkil and the Silks’ (1976), ‘Borderline’ (1980), and ‘Honky Tonk Freeway’ (1981).

He also participated in several television series such as ‘Columbo’, ‘Police Story’, ‘Barnaby Jones’, and ‘M*A*S*H’.

“John leaves a legacy of love, dedication, and service. His memory will always be cherished by his wife, children, grandchildren, as well as by his brother, sisters, extended family, and all those who loved him. John’s impact on the world will be remembered and celebrated by future generations,” said the manager in a statement.

John Ashton was born on February 22, 1948, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and graduated in drama from the University of Southern California.
