Remembering Mustapha Dassoukin: A Tribute to a Moroccan Comedy Legend

Mustapha Dassoukin died on Saturday at his home in Casablanca after a long illness. Born on July 14, 1942 in Derb Soltane, Mustapha Dassoukin was a renowned versatile artist. An exceptional comedian, he left his mark on the Moroccan comedy scene alongside Mustapha Zari. This essential duo has distinguished themselves on stage, in the cinema and on television, demonstrating the range of their talents.

The year 1961 was decisive for both Mustafas, who joined the famous “Masra Ennas” troupe of the late Tayeb Saddiqi, then the “Al Okhoua Arabia” (Arab Brotherhood) troupe of Abdeladim Chennaoui.

Together, Dassoukaine and Zaïri left their mark on cinema with films such as “Le Tourbillon – Moi l’Artiste” by Abdellah Mesbahi (1974), “Le Tourbillon – Moi l’Artiste” by Abdellah Zerouali (1978), “La Braise – Al Jamra” by Farida Bourkia (1982), and “Hors Zone” by Noureddine Douguena (2012).

On television, Dassoukin has also shone with works such as “Kolha o Harfatou” by Mohamed Khalfi, “Labas Kadek Iouatik” by Ahmed Haidar, “Khamsa o Khamis” by Farida Bourkia, “Kanaou Hana” by Nasser Lahouar and “Al Hila Ahsan Mina” by 3ar Mustafa Khayat.

A man of soul, heart and kindness, Mustapha Dassoukin was a true merchant of joy. His death has left a huge void in the Moroccan artistic landscape.
