The Cancer Society, along with its executive committee, managers, employees, and volunteers, is grieving the untimely passing of esteemed oncologist Prof. Avraham Koten. Prof. Koten was also the chairman of the Cancer Society, making his loss deeply felt by all those associated with the organization.

Prof. Avraham Koten’s journey in the field of oncology began as an intern at Rambam Medical College. Over the course of 40 years, he dedicated himself to the medical profession, eventually retiring as the director of the system. In addition to his work at Rambam, Prof. Koten was an active member of the National Oncology Council, serving on various professional committees.

One of the major highlights of his career was his position as the chairman of the committee for treatment by protons in Israel. Alongside a team of Israeli and international experts, Prof. Koten recommended the establishment of an academic proton center in a public hospital.
