Former Athens Mayor Theodoros Bechrakis Passes Away
Dora Bakoyannis, a prominent member of New Democracy, announced the passing of former Athens Mayor Theodoros Bechrakis at the age of 81.
Bechrakis served in various leadership roles within New Democracy, including Deputy General Director for organization and political planning. He was elected to the Athens Municipal Council in 2002 and 2006 and served as its President during both terms. He also held the position of Mayor of Athens from February 23 to December 31, 2006.
Bakoyannis expressed her deep grief and shared a heartfelt message: “Today, one of my dearest friends, Theodoros Bechrakis, passed away. Theodoros was a great personality, fought against the dictatorship, and waged significant battles for Greece and our party.”
Bechrakis was a respected engineer within New Democracy and played a crucial role in the party’s victory under Konstantinos Mitsotakis. Known for his gentle, sweet, and just nature, he earned the trust and respect of all political factions since the dictatorship.
Bakoyannis expressed her immense personal loss and offered condolences to Bechrakis’s son, siblings, and family.
