Reminds residents who overpay for electricity that you will not be fined for this action – this is a myth

by times news cr

“According to the currently valid legislation, the electricity consumer is free to choose what electricity price he wants to pay according to the proposed plans. Therefore, it is important to constantly monitor the offers of independent electricity suppliers and choose the most beneficial one – this way, consumers can receive significantly lower bills”, – Elektrum Lietuva’s product development manager Mantas Kavaliauskas is quoted in the report.

According to the specialist, the prevailing opinion in the society that you will have to pay a fine after changing the plan is a myth.

“A household electricity user who decides to change the electricity supply plan has the right to do so free of charge and before the plan expires – this means that he will not have to return any discounts actually used,” he emphasizes.

According to M. Kavaliauskas, consumers who delay doing so suffer more financially.

“If an electricity consumer previously chose a more expensive electricity supply plan and now hesitates to change it to a cheaper one, he overpays for the electricity he consumes every day. In this case, you should not delay and change the plan after using the internet self-service of the electricity supplier. The most important thing is that it costs nothing,” the expert emphasizes.

Consumers planning to change their electricity supply plan can compare the offers of all suppliers using the State Energy Regulatory Board (VERT) calculator. After entering the amount of electricity consumed, it will filter out the offers of plans from all independent electricity suppliers, from the cheapest to the most expensive.

According to the specialist, it is easier to adapt to changes in electricity prices by carefully following them.

“We notice that customers usually choose plans that are fixed for a shorter period of time, but with the best price per kilowatt hour. This shows that consumers are sensitive to changes in electricity prices,” M. Kavaliauskas is quoted as saying.

According to him, the most important task when choosing another electricity supplier is for consumers to assess the specifics of their electricity consumption and conclude a contract with the supplier that best meets their expectations.
