The director of the Seismology Office at the Libyan Center for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, Nawfal Al-Shanta, said that he neither confirms nor denies the occurrence of an earthquake in the western region, “Tripoli and its environs and the Western Mountain,” at dawn today, Monday.

Al-Shanta explained to Akhbar Libya 24 that the slight earthquake felt by many citizens who contacted the center and confirmed their feeling of it, was the result of the movement of the Azizia Falq, which extends under the Nafusa mountain range from Al-Khums to Wazen.

Al-Shanta added that light tremors occur constantly in Libya and do not necessarily turn into devastating earthquakes.

Al-Shanta indicated that no earthquake was detected in the accredited global observatories through which the center follows up seismic activity, because the national seismic monitoring network stopped working years ago, which the center is trying hard to restore to work through the efforts of the center’s management and the director general of the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research and their communication. with the national unity government.

Yesterday, Sunday, residents of Tripoli and the western mountain regions felt a slight earthquake.
