Removal of a large brain tumor was successfully performed at the “Dr. Abel Gilbert Pontón” – Ministry of Public Health

Neurosurgery specialists from the Hospital de Especialidades Guayaquil Dr. Abel Gilbert Pontón of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), successfully removed a large brain tumor (meningioma) from a patient who suffered from constant headache and loss of vision.

After complementary studies and examinations, a craniotomy, excision of the lesion and biopsy were performed. The intervention was carried out by a multidisciplinary team made up of neurosurgeons, anesthesiologist, instrumentalist, and nursing to guarantee the success of the surgical intervention.

A brain tumor is a mass or lump of abnormal cells found in the brain, and the rate at which it grows can vary greatly. Its development and location of the brain tumor will determine the different conditions of the functioning of the patient’s nervous system.

“When the doctors gave me the diagnosis, I did not imagine going through this, having a large brain tumor, the world came crashing down on me, but now, after my operation and the treatments in the hospital, I have been recovering and I feel very Well, thanks to the professionals at this hospital”, expressed Jennifer R., a patient from the neurosurgery service.

Jennifer is currently recovering satisfactorily, the highly complex intervention has managed to restore part of her vision and has eliminated the headache she had, the patient continues with follow-up and outpatient controls.
