Tirukanur, Nov. 16-

Public Works Department employees were engaged in the work of removing the blockages of sewage drains at Thirukanur Merchant Road junction yesterday.

There are more than hundred shops and business establishments on both sides of Tirukanur Bazaar Road.

The sewage discharged from there goes through the road side ‘B’ shaped drain constructed by the Public Works Department through Merchant Road, Pilliyar Kovil Road and joins the pond in front of the Shiva temple.

In this case, the sewage drain in Tirukanur Merchant Road has not been drained for the past few months and has become blocked with soil and plastic waste.

As a result, the sewage could not pass through the road and overflowed onto the road, causing great suffering to traders and the public.

Based on the complaint, Public Works Department employees removed the cement slabs of the sewage drain at Thirukanur Bazar Road- Merchant Road junction and engaged in the work of disposing of plastic waste through the bogline.

Similarly, before the heavy rains, the public has demanded that the entire ‘B’ shaped sewers constructed on Merchant Road and Pilliyar Kovil Roads should be dug up.
