Third document”Nationally determined contribution“(NDC) on emissions reduction in Azerbaijan will be presented before COP29.
As Day.Az reports with reference to Trend, this was stated by the head of the department of hydrogen and green technologies of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency Rena Gumbatova at the panel discussion “Revolutionizing our understanding of greenhouse gas emissions: the role of empirical data, AI and advanced analytics.” The event took place as part of the final day of the international conference at Climate Action Week in Baku.
Gumbatova emphasized the importance of developing and implementing sustainable energy models to ensure the stability of the energy system amid the growing use of renewable energy sources.
“When we talk about renewable energy, it is important to consider its impact on the energy system. Complex modeling is necessary, since we are dealing with many variables such as climatic conditions, resource availability and their impact on the overall energy balance. We must take into account all these parameters in order to properly integrate renewable sources into the overall system,” noted Gumbatova.
According to her, Azerbaijan is currently developing the third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) document.
“The first document provided for a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent, the second by 40 percent. Now we have reviewed our capabilities and set a goal to move closer to carbon neutrality (NetZero). To do this, we studied the experience of other countries, assessed their strategies and determined how much investment will be required for the successful implementation of such transformations. The document is updated every five years. We plan to present a new document before COP29,” she added.
