The new base will be structured into two maintenance areas for two-hundred-meter units and will have four operational workshop lanes that will offer eight hundred-meter parking spaces. This project also includes the modification and new electronic enclave of the current Ripoll station to integrate and automate the accesses to the future maintenance base and its operational routes.

According to the schedule of actions, Renfe’s goal is to have this new facility operational during the second half of 2024, where maintenance services will be provided to trains running on the R3 line. With its construction, it will be possible to carry out short-range repairs and revisions to the trains without the need to return to their main base. In this way, service incidents and vehicle entry and exit times to the workshop will be reduced.

Plan “Transform Neighborhoods”

Line R3 has a single track, a characteristic that, as indicated by Renfe, significantly conditions the journey time by the waiting time for the trains to cross the stations. For this reason, the “Transformem Rodalies” Plan includes its duplication in three sections of the line to increase capacity. The first of them, the one in Parets del Valls-La Garriga, is currently underway. The other sections that will be doubled are Centelles-Vic, La Garriga-Centelles and Montcada Bifurcaci-Parets del Valls. In all these works, the suppression of level crossings and the remodeling of stations on the line will also be carried out.
