This is the first major restoration to be undertaken in the emblematic building, which will mean renewing the roof of its historic canopy and recovering its original ornamental elements. The works have been awarded to the consortium formed by ASCH Infraestructuras y Servicios and Restauralia Cartago.

The building that houses València Estació del Nord dates from 1917 and is a modernist monument, influenced by Viennese secessionism. Work of the Valencian architect Demetrio Ribes, it has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest and historical heritage. Currently, the station combines the artistic and historical appeal of its property with the functionality it presents to provide rail services and house commercial spaces.

New zinc cover

The project for its restoration includes reinforcing the structure of the historic canopy that covers the station platforms and replacing its current cover with a new one made of zinc and, in its upper part, materials that allow the passage of light to promote light and natural lighting. This roof is a structure two hundred meters long and about 45 meters wide, with which it has an area of about 9,000 square meters.

Likewise, work will be carried out on the side naves of the station and its roofs to recover its elements, and improve its waterproofing and conservation. In addition, specific actions will be carried out in the carpentry and on the facades, its entrance canopies and the metal gate, in order to restore all the elements of the effects caused by the passage of time and the weather. València Nord will remain operational during these works, which will be scheduled in such a way that they do not interfere with rail services or those provided to passengers.

emblematic building of the city

This action will recover and guarantee the preservation of the historical and architectural heritage that constitutes the station building, which also abounds with the elements of local identity, an iconographic repertoire of Valencian motifs spread over the façade, the railings, the stained glass windows, the crenellated auctions or the doors, among other locations.

It joins those that Adif has undertaken or carries out in other structures or historical assets to, in addition to consolidating its reliability and functionality for the rail service, guaranteeing and highlighting its value as historical heritage, among which is the international bridge over the Bidasoa or Barcelona França station.

Likewise, this action succeeds those recently contracted in Valencia with which Adif promotes the modernization of the city’s railway infrastructures, a strategic axis of the Mediterranean Corridor. Last December, the works for the Access Channel and the extension and remodeling of the València Nord station were contracted, as well as the works to reinforce the logistics node of Valencia-Fuente de San Luis, key for the transport of goods, actions that add up to a global investment of about 460 million euros.
