Renowned Kannada actor Chetan Kumar, popularly known as Chetan Kumar Ahimsa, was arrested in Bengaluru on Tuesday. His arrest was made after his tweet went viral on Hindutva. Complaints were filed against him for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Hindus. He wrote in the tweet, ‘Hindutva is based on lies’.
Dakar Chetan Kumar is a Dalit and Adivasi activist. This is the second time he has been arrested for tweeting. In February 2022, he was arrested for posting an objectionable tweet on Karnataka High Court Justice Krishna Dixit. Then the hijab case was going on in the court.
Now he has been arrested again. After receiving a complaint, he was taken into custody by Seshadripuram police in Bengaluru. And presented in the district court.
In a tweet on March 20, Chetan Kumar claimed, “Hindutva is based on a lie. Savarkar: Indian ‘nation’ began when Rama defeated Ravana and returned to Ayodhya –> a lie.
Hours after he tweeted, pro-Hindu organizations filed a complaint against him and an FIR was registered at Seshadripuram police station.
Chetan Kumar has been charged with insulting any religion or religious sentiments and making statements promoting communal enmity.
