Matteo Renzi declares himself ready to break with the current majority Of Genova led by Marco Bucci to build a political alternative in Liguria. During an interview with the PressRenzi addresses the delicate issue of the position of Italy Alive in the region, highlighting the importance of “sweeping away ambiguities” and clarifying future alliances. “If to create an alternative to the Meloni government we need to leave the Genoa majority, let’s talk about it. But is this really the point or is it an alibi to break up?” asks Renzi, showing a certain frustration towards the internal divisions in the coalition.

Italy Aliveaccording to Renzi, does not intend to keep “his feet in different shoes”. The party leader reiterates his willingness to separate from the “good Marco Bucci”, recalling that the same Joseph Conte had appointed him Commissioner for the reconstruction of the Morandi Bridge. Renzi does not exclude the possibility of supporting the candidacy of Andrea Orlandodespite their different political positions. “We are ready to be present in a reformist list without party symbols. And to support the candidacy of Andrea Orlando, with whom I have different positions but whom I have nevertheless appointed minister”, says Renzi.

Renzi urges to avoid alibis and to focus on the coalition leadership in Liguria. “There’s no point in beating around the bush. In Liguria the problem is not Italia Viva, but the divisions of others.” Regarding the leadership of the coalition, Renzi offers his support to Elly Schleinbut with a clear condition: “If Elly Schlein gives the line, we are in. If Conte gives the line, then we are out. But the stakes today are not on Italia Viva but on the leadership of the coalition”.

The former prime minister, despite his differences with Conte, avoids openly criticizing his former ally, declaring: “I made a vow: I don’t want to speak badly of him.” However, Renzi does not give up on underlining the strategic differences, accusing Conte of being “stuck in 2021” and of not having yet digested the nomination of Mario Draghi as Prime Minister. “I deal with the future: we must create an alternative to Meloni,” Renzi says, maintaining that those who put vetoes within the coalition are attacking Schlein, not him.

Renzi finally responds to the accusations of conspiracy made by the government Melons. «But what conspiracy? It was the usual whining of this prime minister». Renzi reveals that he had contact with Meloni regarding Raffaele Fittoduring which he joked: «I’m organizing the new plot against you». Despite the light tone, Renzi does not spare criticism of the prime minister and her entourage: «The aggression against me by the Meloni sisters was not nice. Evidently they have more problems than we thought».
