Title: Rep. Lauren Boebert Apologizes for Vaping Incident at ‘Beetlejuice’ Show

Date: September 15, 2021

Rep. Lauren Boebert, the Republican Congresswoman from Colorado, has issued an apology after new surveillance footage emerged showing her vaping during a performance of the musical “Beetlejuice” at a Denver theater. The video contradicted her previous denial of vaping while acknowledging her ejection due to disruptive behavior.

Boebert expressed remorse for her actions, stating that she had “fallen short of [her] values.” In her apology, she recognized the attention the incident had brought to the community and expressed regret for any harm caused. She emphasized that her behavior was not intended to be malicious, but she acknowledged the negative impact it had.

An incident report obtained by USA TODAY stated that two unidentified patrons had lodged multiple complaints about vaping, singing, and causing a disturbance during the performance. These patrons were allegedly asked to leave but refused, even making statements such as “Do you know who I am?”

Initially, Boebert’s campaign downplayed the incident, referring to it as the congresswoman “enthusiastically” enjoying a “zany” and “outrageous” performance of Beetlejuice. She even tweeted about her excitement and pleaded guilty to “laughing and singing too loud.” Her campaign also denied that she was vaping at the time.

However, newly released surveillance video, aired by NBC affiliate 9News, shows Boebert reaching beneath her seat, putting something up to her mouth, and blowing out a cloud of smoke. The footage also captures her taking a selfie with a phone.

Boebert’s campaign has yet to comment on the video evidence.

As this incident gains attention, critics argue that it exemplifies disrespectful and disruptive behavior for an elected representative. Supporters of Boebert believe that the backlash is unwarranted, emphasizing her right to enjoy leisure activities.

It remains to be seen how this incident will impact Boebert’s political career and standing in her constituency. The consequences of her actions and subsequent apology will likely be discussed and analyzed in days to come.
