Repair of 51 km roads and 96 bridges damaged by floods

All offices, organizations and institutions under the Local Government Department of the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives are working to ensure civic amenities in flood-affected areas. The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is making efforts to keep shelters ready, road connectivity across the country uninterrupted and speedy repair of damaged roads.

Repair of 51 km roads and 96 bridges damaged by floods

Seven thousand 722 kilometers of roads and one thousand 101 bridges and culverts were initially damaged by the flood. So far 51 km of roads and 96 bridges and culverts have been repaired from LGED.

This information was informed in a press release from the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives on Thursday (August 29).

It is said that the Directorate of Public Health Engineering is working to ensure supply of clean water and sanitation system in the flood-affected areas. According to the information available till date, 38 lakh 34 thousand water treatment tablets have been distributed by the local government department in 11 flood affected districts. 23 thousand 927 jerrycans were distributed and 4 thousand 137 hygiene kits were distributed with the help of UNICEF.

It was informed that 63 thousand 274 people have been distributed dry food in flood affected areas through various local government institutions under the local government department. One lakh 77 thousand 328 people have been rescued. Food has been distributed to 1 lakh 34 thousand 320 people in shelters.

Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) has so far distributed 1 lakh 70 thousand 505 liters of safe drinking water through eight (Feni five, Moulvibazar one, Noakhali one and Comilla one) mobile water treatment across the country.
