Repentant Fritzl conditionally released from prison – Austria

by time news

Krems – With enormous media interest, a three-judge panel of the Krems Regional Court decided on the fate of Josef Fritzl on Thursday morning. It had to be examined ex officio whether the 88-year-old, who was sentenced to life imprisonment and criminal detention in a forensic therapeutic center in the Amstetten incest case, would continue to be housed or be conditionally released and transferred to the regular prison system. After a hearing with the Lower Austrian and based on a report by psychiatric expert Adelheid Kastner, who determined that Fritzl no longer posed a danger to the public due to his onset of dementia, the Senate decided in favor of a conditional release from detention, but spoke against one conditional release from prison.
