The women’s Bundesliga has also started the new season. And there was immediate trouble with referees. Now the DFB is getting involved.
After the 2:3 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen at the start of the Women’s Bundesliga season, SC Freiburg has lodged an appeal with the DFB against the result of the match. The club justified this with an alleged violation of the rules by referee Theresa Hug. She had the ultimately decisive penalty for Leverkusen in the 88th minute of last Saturday’s match retaken.
In the first attempt, Bayer player Kristin Kögel shot the ball over the goal. However, as Freiburg goalkeeper Rafaela Borggräfe moved too early in the opinion of the referee, she had the penalty kick retaken – Kögel scored to make it 2:3.
According to the rules, referees can retake a penalty, but only if the goalkeeper’s offense clearly affected the shooter. The DFB sports court will now ask those involved for their statements, the association announced. After evaluating these statements, a decision will be made on how the proceedings will proceed.
