The Biden administration is considering removing Iran’s Revolutionary Guards from the blacklist of foreign terrorist organizations, in exchange for Iranian promises to restrain its forces, the United States reported Thursday night.
U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price commented: “The easing of sanctions is at the heart of the negotiations to revive the nuclear deal.”
As a reminder, in April 2019, former President Donald Trump declared the Revolutionary Guards a terrorist organization and said of the decision: “An unprecedented move that recognizes a reality in which Iran is not only a country sponsoring terrorism, but its Revolutionary Guards are actively involved in terrorism, financing and promoting terrorism.”
