Report: Former Chief of Staff Izenkot is expected to announce a run-off election

by time news

Former Chief of Staff Gadi Izenkot is expected to announce his candidacy after the dissolution of the Knesset, News 13 reported today (Wednesday). The former has already had contacts with blue and white chairman Bnei Gantz and Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid.

According to the report, Izenkot spoke to his associates saying that “the way to influence is from within, and the timing is now”. The party leaders from most corners of the political spectrum are courting the former chief of staff, with Lapid currently leading the race, despite the fact that Izenkot has not yet decided which party to join.

As you may recall, ahead of the 2021 elections, Izenkot announced that after a long and difficult debate, he decided not to join the political system at this stage. The former chief of staff reasoned and said that he would rather wait for the cooling off to end. Last January, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said during a meeting of the Yesh Atid faction that “Major General Eisenkot and I are in good and constant contact. We met a month ago at an event. “It’s a great idea for him to join politics, a great idea for him to have a bad future.”
