The Azerbaijan Athletics Federation presented a report for last year.

According to İdman.biz, the report provides information on the work done by the federation under the new leadership.

The steps taken towards the development of athletics in Azerbaijan, the achievements of our athletes at international competitions, the visit of the President of the European Athletics Association Dobromir Karamarinov to Azerbaijan were noted:

“Today, the development of sports in Azerbaijan is one of the priority areas of state policy. Thanks to the successful continuation of the sports policy laid down by national leader Heydar Aliyev on the part of Ilham Aliyev, who has headed the National Olympic Committee since 1997, and the great care of First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, Azerbaijan has become a real sports country of global scale.

The Azerbaijan Athletics Federation also contributes to the development of sports in our country. Athletics competitions are being successfully organized, high conditions have been created to prepare our athletes for prestigious competitions, while at the same time important steps are being taken towards discovering new talents and ensuring the popularity of athletics.

Recently, the results of our athletes at various international competitions have improved. Meanwhile, Anna Skidan’s performance at last year’s World Championships in Budapest is especially noteworthy. Although our representative in the hammer throw competition was very close to a medal, he secured a license for the Summer Olympic Games in Paris by finishing in 4th place.

Over the past year, a number of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of national leader Heydar Aliyev were organized under the joint organization of the AAF and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. At the same time, we can note mass running competitions, a 100 km ultramarathon and other events in Baku, Ganja, Ismailly. This year, the Khankendi-Baku ultramarathon, which took place from February 29 to March 4, was of historical significance. In the race, held under the motto “Forward with Pride,” in addition to local athletes, foreigners also covered a total distance of 380 km.

Today the AAF is recognized as a reliable partner of leading sports organizations. During the year, the delegation, led by Federation President Javid Gurbanov, took part in various international events, including World Athletics, European Athletics and the Balkan Athletics Report and Election Conference.

Important work is currently underway to expand the geography of athletics and lay the foundation for future success. Last November, an athletics training base was built in the village of Amirzhan and handed over to athletes. The facility has sections for hammer throw, javelin throw, discus throw, shot put, sectors for long jump and running tracks for athletes. In addition, a new federation office was commissioned that meets modern requirements. The opening ceremony was attended by the President of the European Athletics Association, Dobromir Karamarinov, who visited our country on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Azerbaijani athletics, and other honored guests.

Representatives of the Federation visited different regions of the republic and examined about 1,000 schoolchildren as part of a project to identify talented children. Selected students are taken under supervision and necessary measures are taken for their development. We believe that the work done will soon bear fruit and our athletes will delight our people with new victories!”
