Report on the Police’s Efforts in Combating Organized Crime Presented

by time news

At the press conference, Anders Thornberg will be joined by National Coroner Fredrik Rosengren. Together, they are among the 12 authorities who have been combating organized crime since 2009, on behalf of the government. Thornberg notes the importance of following the money to weaken criminal organizations as the proceeds of crime fuel their activities.

The National Audit Office has raised concerns about the police authority’s work with special events. They point out that the police cannot provide details on how many special incidents they have carried out, the duration of such events, the number of man-hours involved, or the additional costs of such efforts. Thornberg declines to comment on the death of police chief Mats Löfving and instead focuses on the organized crime cooperation council that receives a lot of resources.

The Police Agency responds to the National Audit Office’s criticism on its website, stating that special events are a form of management rather than a law enforcement tool. Any consequences that arise due to changed resource needs during extraordinary situations cannot be attributed to this form of management.

In addition to Thornberg, National Coroner Fredrik Rosengren will participate in the press conference.

Since 2009, 12 authorities have been working together against organized crime, the effort is carried out on behalf of the government.

– The proceeds of crime are the engine of criminal activities. Following the money is an important tool for weakening criminal organizations, says Anders Thornberg.

Criticism of particular events

The National Audit Office directs today scathing criticism of the police authority’s work with special events. The authority points to shortcomings in that the police cannot account for how many special incidents the police have carried out, how long they have lasted, how many years of manpower were involved or the additional costs for the efforts.

During the press conference, Thornberg receives questions about the death of police chief Mats Löfving, which he says he does not want to comment on at the moment. He also receives questions about the National Audit Office’s criticism.

– Just today, I am here to answer questions regarding the cooperation council against organized crime, which we put a lot of resources into.

On its website, the Police Agency comments on the National Audit Office’s criticism. They write that a special event is a form of management and not a tool for law enforcement. “The possible consequences that arise when extraordinary situations lead to changed resource needs cannot be derived from the form of management”.
