For talks? The Chairman of the Constitution Committee Simcha Rothman arrived at the President’s house to discuss a compromise outline on the reform of the judicial system with the team of experts formed by the President

The Chairman of the Law and Justice Committee, MK Simcha Rothman, arrived a short time ago (Wednesday) at the house of President Yitzhak Bozhi Herzog to discuss a compromise outline with the team of experts formed by the President on the reform of the judicial system.

Another step: the Knesset promoted the ‘overcoming clause’

As I recall, last Wednesday a number of laws were supposed to appear on the agenda of the plenum, but at the last minute it was agreed to remove them, in light of the President’s personal request, and this in order to allow dialogue and discussion on the legal reform.

Earlier today, the constitutional committee chaired by Rothman continued to discuss the legal reform clauses, including the High Court’s authority to invalidate laws enacted by the Knesset.

Regarding the possibility of dialogue with the opposition regarding the reform, Rothman said that “Justice Minister Yariv Levin and I both said that we would be very happy to pass by agreement, and I think that there are many things and issues that are within the framework of the so-called reform, which there is agreement about. For example, regarding the committee for selecting judges, there are differences between Levin’s proposal and my proposal, which is due for first reading.”
