The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based opposition body, released photos today (Saturday) allegedly documenting the extensive damage done to the old passenger halls at Damascus airport due to the attack attributed to Israel.

The Ministry of Transportation in Damascus confirmed last night that the runways of the port were shut down after being hit in several places in an attack yesterday morning. It was also reported that a passenger hall in the port was damaged. Due to the shutdown of operations at the port yesterday, the landing planes were diverted to the airport in Aleppo. The Russian Foreign Ministry announced last night that it strongly condemns the Israeli attack, in his words. “We must reiterate our position that the ongoing Israeli bombing of Syrian territory, which violates basic norms of international law, is completely unacceptable,” a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the targets of the attack in the southern suburbs of Damascus were three military bases with the presence of Lebanese Hezbollah members. It was also reported that the bases were hit by about 10 Israeli missiles, while the Syrian military defense system managed to intercept about 7 missiles and it was reported that some of the missiles fell in the Syrian village of Aqraba and led to material damage.

A Syrian army source said that the Israeli Air Force attacked several positions in the southern capital, Damascus, on Friday morning from the Golan Heights. The attack was carried out from the Golan Heights. According to the Syrian army, the air defense systems were activated and intercepted most of the missiles. A few hours later, the Syrian Ministry of Communications announced that all inbound and outbound flights from Damascus International Airport had been suspended due to the disqualification of some of the technical equipment at the airport.

This is the second attack attributed to Israel this week in the same area. On Monday night, the Syrian army reported that the Israeli Air Force had attacked several positions in the southern capital of the Golan Heights. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told Saudi Al-Hadath that the attack was aimed at the al-Kiswa area in the southwestern part of Damascus, where pro-Iranian militias are located. According to the report, the Syrian regime’s air defense systems managed to intercept at least 6 Israeli missiles.
