Goyang City has used the same place name for 611 years and has a long history with world cultural heritage sites, national parks, and the Han River, but it does not have a public history museum.

In addition, through the public hearing, opinions were prepared on the need for a museum centered on differentiated content and stories rather than exhibitions of relics, as well as the basic concept of museum construction and basic directions for exhibition, construction, and introduction facilities.
However, Goyang City ignored these service results and pointed out that the service cost for building a history museum (200 million won) was set in the 2023 budget and then cut, and this year’s budget (140 million won) was set but also cut.
Rep. Go asked, “Why are you planning a new service based on the results of a service that has already been completed?” and “Unless new facts have been discovered historically, is there a place that surpasses the existing candidate site?”
He then pointed out, “If construction services are provided by adding a new site, it is merely a service to select a new site.”
At the same time, he ordered that if the construction of a museum is urgent and important, it should be carried out based on the results of the 2019 research project that has already been completed.
In response to this, Goyang Special Mayor Lee Dong-hwan responded, “In order to quickly build a public museum, we will do our best to build a museum that secures the history and identity of Goyang citizens by supplementing and reconstructing the results of existing services, rather than promoting new services.” .
