Representatives from 20 countries on the American continent, including Colombia, are in Guatemala this Tuesday to participate in the Ministerial Meeting of the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection, in which they will seek to “promote initiatives aimed at safe, orderly, regular and humane”, as well as “the protection of people in the context of mobility”.
Guatemala is preparing to host the Ministerial Meeting of the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection, in a meeting that will take place this May 7, at the National Palace of Culture.

The first meeting took place on the occasion of the Ninth Summit of the Americas, in Los Angeles, California, in June 2022, as an initiative of the Government of the United States of America. It was endorsed in October of that same year in Lima, Peru.
This has an implementation plan based on four pillars: stability and assistance for communities, promoting regular migration and protection routes; humanitarian border management and coordinated emergency response.
In addition to the main event, several parallel events will be held with representatives of the private sector, civil society, academia and governments, to work on labor migration and “the role of the private sector in the face of migration dynamics for the comprehensive development of the societies.

Bilateral meetings will also be held between officials from the participating countries and will take place at the headquarters of the Guatemalan Foreign Ministry. One of the meetings that will take place will be between the Guatemalan president, Bernardo Arévalo, and the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
According to the State Department, Blinken will also hold bilateral meetings with “other leaders of the Western Hemisphere to analyze the consolidation of a more secure and prosperous hemisphere.”
