Representing HM the King at the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Provence Landing, Mr. Akhannouch received by the French President
Saint-Raphaël (South-East) – The President of the French Republic, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, received, Thursday in Saint-Raphaël, the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, who represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI, at the commemoration ceremony of the 80th anniversary of the Landing in Provence.
In a statement to the press, Mr. Akhannouch stressed that this ceremony was an opportunity to pay tribute to the soldiers of the African continent, among whom were many Moroccans who fought alongside the Allies for the Freedom of France.
“My presence at this ceremony, representing His Majesty the King, is all the more significant as many valiant Moroccan soldiers participated alongside their French and African brothers in arms in the liberation of France during the Second World War,” added the Head of Government.
During the memorial sequence of this commemoration, which took place at the national necropolis of Boulouris in Saint-Raphaël, a tribute was paid to the 350,000 men who landed on August 15, 1944 in Provence.
