Five hundred, almost double. They are the characters that can compose a message about Threadsthe Meta social network launched today also in Italy that the giant of Mark Zuckerberg invented to challenge X, the former Twitter bought by Elon Musk and overwhelmed by criticism. Five hundred characters but otherwise a clone of the bird’s social network.
It’s also there on Threads Republic: our newspaper is immediately on the new social network, to explore its potential and be there for users already registered on Instagram who decide to download the new app, or those who don’t have Instagram but want to try the new app.
A new possibility to get information through Repubblica, which further enriches its channels. Added to the paper newspaper and the website, the two pillars of our community, are the podcasts available on streaming platforms (such as OnePodcast and Spotify) and all the souls on social media: on Instagram the threshold of 2.2 million followers has been exceeded which adds up to the 4 million of Facebook and to 3.5 million Twitters. The videos on Youtube are followed by 734 thousand people and the updates on TikTok by 350 thousand followers, with 18 million likes.

Threads, an offshoot of Instagram
Threads, an app already launched in the US and UK in July, was until now unavailable in Italy and Europe due to European law restrictions. These laws prevent platforms from transferring data from other apps, a feature envisioned by Threads that is linked to Instagram. In Europe, in July, the Irish Guarantor blocked the publication of the app in stores due to these restrictions.

The Meta app follows the features that until now were the prerogatives of Twitter/X: a social network made mainly of text, with hashtags, mentions and little space for photos and videos. Too similar to X according to Musk, who has threatened legal action against Meta.
What to do to follow Repubblica
It’s very simple. The new app – once downloaded – uses Instagram accounts. Once inside, you can add your name, bio, and any links you want to display on your Threads profile. If you want you can simply duplicate the Instagram profile, with the Import from Instagram button.
Next step: choose the accounts you want to follow. You can select the accounts you follow on Instagram one by one or press “Follow all”.
