Devotees have demanded that a wall be built around the temple which was demolished for road widening at Nellikuppam-Nellikuppam.
Road widening works are going on from Cuddalore to Madapattu as part of the Chennai-Kanyakumari industrial road expansion. They are widening the road by constructing rainwater drains on both sides of the road.
This work is going on in Nellikuppam city limits. The ancient Bhulokanath temple built by the Chola kings is situated along this road.
The 220 feet long circular wall of the temple was demolished for the widening of the road.
Due to this, the security of the temple is questionable. Devotees have demanded that the contractor, who has taken the contract for widening the road, should build the surrounding wall of the temple without changing the old one.
