Rameswaram: 18 kg gold bars worth Rs 10.5 crore were recovered by smugglers in the middle of the sea near Rameswaram in collaboration with the Navy.

Officers of the Revenue Intelligence Department on board an Indian Coast Guard patrol vessel conducted surveillance in Mandapam waters near Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district on Feb. 8.

At that time, those who smuggled gold bars from Sri Lanka in a country boat, when they did not see the patrol boat, threw the smuggled gold bars into the sea.

Subsequently, the officers surrounded the boat and arrested three people namely Nagur Gani, 30, Mohammad Tamir, 39, and Sagupansadiq, 22, who were members of the hall.

The Indian Coast Guard, through ‘scuba diving’, searched for the gold bars thrown into the sea from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm yesterday. But not available.

Yesterday was the second day of search. At 1:00 pm, 18 kg gold bars were recovered from the deep sea. Its value is 10.5 crore rupees.

The Central Revenue Intelligence Department is continuously investigating the arrested three persons as to who was the main point of Tamil Nadu who asked them to smuggle these gold bars to Sri Lanka.

In this, it has now been revealed that there is a connection with a high-ranking person elected by the people. The investigation is ongoing.
