“World’s Top 2% Scientists 2022”: 4 researchers from IRCCS San Raffaele in the world ranking

There are 4 researchers from IRCCS San Raffaele who have been included in the world ranking of scientists with the highest level of scientific productivity elaborated by researchers at Stanford University and published in the scientific journal PLOS Biology. It’s about Prof. Paolo Maria Rossini, head of the Neuroscience and Neurorehabilitation Department of the IRCCS San Raffaele; of the prof. Fabrizio Stocchi, head of the Parkinson Center, parkinsonisms and movement disorders at the IRCCS San Raffaele and full professor of neurology at the San Raffaele Telematic University; of the prof. Giuseppe Rosano, head of preclinical and translational research in the cardiovascular area of IRCCS San Raffaele and full professor of cardiology at San Raffaele University and Professor Stefano Bonassi, head of the Clinical and Molecular Epidemiology Unit of IRCCS San Raffaele and full professor of General and Applied Hygiene of the San Raffaele University. The study, led by Professor John Ioannidis of Stanford University, surveyed 8.6 million researchers from universities and research centers around the world, identifying the scientists who stood out the most based on the number of publications and citations in the related disciplinary areas.

Stanford University has, in fact, prepared an update of a bibliometric study, the science that uses mathematical and statistical techniques to analyze the quantity, quality and diffusion of publications within scientific communities. Two classifications emerge from the report, one based on the researchers’ entire careers and one referring to 2021. The lists were produced with reference to 22 scientific areas and 176 sub-categories, from astrophysics to zoology, according to an author profile classification obtained with advanced machine learning techniques, intended to produce normalized and therefore comparable results between the different scientific areas. The result is a snapshot of over 195,000 scientists who stand out for their scientific authority and who represent 2% of a total audience of 8.6 million researchers from universities and research centers around the world. For each researcher, the sector in which he is active, the corresponding ranking, the citations and the relative h-index are indicated. The index obtained measures the impact in citation terms of each researcher and of each individual work.
