Within the framework of the II Shusha Global Media Forum on the topic “Exposing False Narratives: Fighting Disinformation”, commissioned by the Baku Initiative Group, a presentation of the study “The Evolution of French Colonialism: A Political and Constitutional Study” was held, written by renowned UN expert Dr. Carlisle Corbin (USA).

As reported on Monday by Day.Az with reference to Trend, the nearly 140-page study provides information on the colonization of former and current French colonies – Vietnam, Algeria, New Caledonia, French Polynesia (Maohi Nui), Saint Martin, Saint Barthelemy, Mayotte (which is considered the territory of the Union of Comoros), Reunion, Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana, as well as on the current colonial policy of France.

The study, based on international legal documents, lists the crimes committed by France and those currently being committed (ethnic cleansing, slave trade, repression, arrests and murders of the indigenous population, their death from starvation, etc.), failure to comply with UN resolutions, and makes extensive reference to the political, military strategic and economic interests of France that underlie these heinous acts.

It is particularly emphasized that in New Caledonia, the current processes are currently based on the desire of French President Emmanuel Macron to turn a blind eye to the demands of the indigenous population regarding the decolonization process, and to violently advance his political colonial policy. In addition, it is mentioned that French officials groundlessly link the recent unrest in New Caledonia to the intervention of foreign forces, in particular Azerbaijan, emphasizing that this is aimed at distracting the international community from the justified demands of the local people – the Kanaks.

It should be noted that the study will serve to raise international awareness of the French government’s actions in the colonies that are contrary to international law and to draw attention to the problem of colonialism.

The study is expected to be sent to the UN and its specialized agencies, as well as to the Non-Aligned Movement, the European Union, the African Union, the OSCE and other international organizations.
