In the preface to this publication, the director of the Research Laboratory “Morocco in Africa: history, memory and international environment”, Mohamed Latif, indicated that the publication of this guide is not motivated solely by considerations linked to the theme of heritage as a research trend of which many questions are still being listed by specialists, but also, due to the observations recorded after a certain number of sessions, organized by the laboratory, calling for the need for researchers and students from various university cycles to have a reference in the form of an organized guide relating to cultural heritage.
Mr. Latif specified that this guide attempts to answer questions worthy of attention linked to documentation, protection and preservation efforts, international reference and joint humanitarian action in the preservation of heritage assets (…) in a way that connects heritage issues to cognitive action and puts the student in contact with their university environment to make them active and involved in approaching and understanding the concerns of the State and the issues of society and contribute to the consolidation of awareness around the important role of cultural heritage in achieving economic and social development.
For his part, Mr. Lemlouki indicated that Morocco has an authentic and diverse tangible and intangible cultural heritage, having allowed the Kingdom to occupy a pioneering place in this field, noting that numerous heritage assets, tangible and intangible, were listed among the world heritage masterpieces.
The Kingdom’s efforts in this regard are recognized and requested by many countries in the region and Arab countries in the field of restoration operations, expertise and advice, he said.
He added that the Kingdom has taken important steps in terms of preserving its cultural heritage, recalling the launch at the beginning of the last century of several projects to restore historical monuments.
“The results of the colonial period were rich and founding, and interest in heritage has continued until today with a series of events, festivals and restoration and inventory projects across the regions of the Kingdom”, further noted the researcher.
He also continued that efforts are now directed towards capacity building, upgrading human resources, developing skills in the field of preservation of cultural heritage in general and the establishment of operations, programs and operational plans with a scientific knowledge base, through various means and approaches, before specifying that the publication of this book emanates from his conviction that students and researchers need a guide capable of consolidating their contribution for the preservation and documentation of national cultural heritage, and for carrying out research and studies in accordance with research rules and methods.
