The IDF stated in response that “a reservist took photographs and published documentation contrary to IDF orders and values. Recently, it was decided to terminate his reserve service. The photograph was taken during a field investigation. The suspect was not harmed during the investigation. After a brief questioning, the detainee was released.”

The spokesman for the American State Department, Dant Patel, was asked about the photo during a press conference, and claimed that it is “very disturbing”. He added: “I have no knowledge or information about the circumstances surrounding this incident, I will leave it to the IDF to talk about those specific cases, but we made it clear to them that basic human rights must be respected. The humanitarian law should be respected, and those who do not uphold it – should be held accountable.”
