The Colombian Government, through the ministries of Mines and Energy and Environment, presented a balance of the country’s current energy situation and the climate forecasts related to precipitation.
According to the report provided, the country’s reservoirs have seen significant improvement, reaching a level of 29.5%, with a recovery of 1% compared to the previous week. In addition, a 4% reduction in energy demand has been highlighted during the weekend, especially last Friday, when the Civic Day of Peace with Nature was declared.
Despite this improvement, Ministers have emphasized that we cannot let our guard down and they have urged the population to continue with the water and energy saving campaign under the motto ‘Close the tap and turn off the light’.
President Gustavo Petro has stated that the country has managed to move away from the risk of energy rationing thanks to the savings generated during Civic Day and the recorded rains. However, he has warned that solid stability in precipitation levels cannot yet be guaranteed and has called for saving measures to be maintained.

The Minister of the Environment, Susana Muhamad, has indicated that, although new rains are expected this week according to the Ideam forecasts, April is projected to end with below-average precipitation levels for this month. Regarding May, Muhamad has indicated that, although the rains will decrease in intensity during the first week, they will remain within expected levels throughout the month.
Regarding the risk situation due to landslides, It has been reported that 691 municipalities, especially in the Pacific region, remain on alertwith 95 of them on red alert due to the rains.
On the other hand, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Andrés Camacho, has presented a detailed report on the actions taken to mitigate the effects of the El Niño phenomenon throughout the country. These actions include:
Surveillance and Control: Visits have been made to reservoirs and companies to monitor the state of the facilities and guarantee energy availability.
Regulatory Measures: Resolutions have been implemented to incorporate more renewable energy and expand thermal generation capacity during the El Niño phenomenon.
Entry of more Energy into the System: The commercial operation of solar parks has been confirmed and new energy generation projects are expected.
In addition, incentives have been established for energy savings, including a system of differentiated rates for those who exceed their reference consumption.ç
