Resident Evil 10: Possible 2029 Release Date Revealed?

by Priyanka Patel

The next mainline installment in Capcom’s hugely popular Resident Evil franchise may arrive sooner than fans anticipated. While Resident Evil Requiem, also known as Resident Evil 9, is still weeks away from its February 27, 2026 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, details surrounding its successor – tentatively being referred to as Resident Evil 10 – are beginning to surface. The information comes from a well-known and reliable source within the Resident Evil community, suggesting a potentially accelerated development cycle.

According to Dusk Golem, a prominent insider with a track record of accurately leaking information about the series, Capcom is currently aiming for a 2029 release for the next installment. This would represent a significantly shorter turnaround compared to the five-year gap between Resident Evil Village (2021) and Resident Evil Requiem. Dusk Golem shared the information on X (formerly Twitter) on February 13, 2026, stating the release could be pushed to 2030 or 2031 depending on development progress.

The insider also noted that development of downloadable content for Resident Evil Requiem is well underway, potentially allowing Capcom to transition more efficiently to work on the next major title. While the game is currently referred to as Resident Evil 10, it’s likely the final title will differ.

A Potential Leap to Next-Generation Consoles

A 2029 release window for Resident Evil 10 places its launch squarely within the anticipated transition to the next generation of gaming consoles. Microsoft documents from several years ago suggested that successors to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 could arrive around 2028, though component shortages and industry shifts could delay those plans into the early 2030s.

This timing could position Resident Evil 10 as one of the first major AAA titles designed to fully utilize the hardware capabilities of the future PlayStation 6 and next-generation Xbox, or as a cross-generational release supporting both current and upcoming consoles. The game is being developed using the RE Engine, which has powered recent successful Resident Evil titles like Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil 2 (remake), Resident Evil 3 (remake), Resident Evil Village, and the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem.

Resident Evil Requiem itself is set to feature a new protagonist, FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, alongside returning character Leon S. Kennedy. The game will investigate the remnants of Raccoon City, blending survival horror elements with more action-oriented gameplay.

While the 2029 target for Resident Evil 10 is currently internal to Capcom, it’s important to remember that development timelines for AAA games are often subject to change. As Dusk Golem noted, delays are always possible. However, the prospect of a new Resident Evil experience arriving relatively soon after Resident Evil Requiem is undoubtedly exciting for fans of the long-running horror franchise.

Capcom has not yet officially commented on the development of Resident Evil 10. The next official update regarding the series will likely come following the release of Resident Evil Requiem on February 27, 2026.
