Residents of Shakhtinsk complain about mass cutting of pine trees in forest plantations

by time news

Residents of Shakhtinsk have been trumpeting to all authorities for the past few days, reporting that someone is cutting down live pine trees in the forest plantation area. Shakhtinsk residents are very concerned about the state of the forest zone and demand that the cutting be stopped, reports a correspondent of ekaraganda.kz.

The Shakhty residents walked through the forest plantation and photographed the trees that had been cut down and piled up. In addition, the activists noticed strange notches on healthy living trees and now fear that a large part of the plantation will be cut down.

The Karaganda Forest and Wildlife Protection Department reports that foresters are cutting down trees, although they are only cutting down dry or burnt trees. This is done to prevent the spread of pests and to protect the forest from possible fires.

“The Karaganda Forest and Wildlife Protection Department is carrying out forestry work on the site of the city of Shakhtinsk. This is a clear sanitary felling based on the order of the Forestry and Wildlife Committee “On approval of the volumes of standing timber release on the sites of the state forest fund of the Karaganda region for 2024″ and the Rules for logging on the sites of the state forest fund from 2015, sanitary rules in forests from 2015 and the act of forest pathology inspection of the sanitary condition of forest plantations. This is done in order to reduce the spread of pests and forest diseases, as well as to improve fire safety in the state forest fund,” the department explains.

In addition, the department says that after clearing the area, two-year-old Scots pine seedlings will be planted in those places to restore the forest.

Meanwhile, Shakhtinsk residents continue to claim that they are cutting down not only dry or burnt pines, but also living trees. To clarify everything, on Sunday, August 18, at 10 a.m., the director of the Karaganda forestry and wildlife will hold a meeting with residents. The director of the forestry will talk about the work being done, and will clearly show which pines are being cut down and for what purpose. The meeting will take place on a patch between the city of Shakhtinsk and the forest plantation.
