Residents of the Devin village of Breze came out for a protest – a procession. There were about 100 protesters, who with placards and chants “Breze will have it”, “The people of Breze are not second quality”, “We want water supply and sewerage”. They walked 2 km from the “Zabral” junction to the municipal administration building. The disaffected were led by the mayor of the village Irina Kochovska, Todor Batkov-son, who failed to enter the National Assembly, and two municipal councilors.
The residents of Breze are demanding the construction of new water supply, sewerage, normal roads and a road to the cemetery park. In January, we attended the public discussion of the draft budget because the village was not included. They promised by the end of March this year. to submit our projects and allocate funds for the road to the cemetery. None of this they fulfilled. We have no reason to trust the municipality and work with it. We don’t want politics, we want to survive, we want basic living conditions,” said Mayor Irina Kochovska.
Todor Batkov-sin stated that already in the pre-election campaign he made a commitment that he would help the residents of Breze in their struggle for justice and access to normal living conditions. He declared to the people that if no action was taken, a class action would be filed in the court of human rights in Strasbourg. According to Nikolay Yurukov, deputy mayor of Devin municipality, the village’s problems have been going on for 40-50 years. “As municipal management, we have identified them and taken the first steps to solve them. We have updated the old project for the internal water network, it has been paid off and a building permit has already been issued. A public order is being prepared, which has been uploaded to ISUN, so that when we secure funds, things can be implemented more quickly,” said Yurukov.
He claims that the municipality is preparing projects for a water supply pipe from an area 9 kilometers from the village, as well as for the road from the junction to the village and for the modernization of the mineral water bath. The residents of the village announced that they will continue with the protests until real action is taken.
