Neighborhood residents Social Security Institutein the western area of São Paulo, they have been without electricity for 17 hours. The reason would be the explosion of a switch on a pole on Rua Major Almeida Queiroz. As a result, the population faces problems with lack of electricity. One of them is therapist Taciana Mariosa, who is at risk of losing insulins that require refrigeration. “After the blackout, I only opened the refrigerator once to prevent the medicine from changing in temperature. Otherwise, it could spoil and I’ll have to throw it away”, he lamented. At least five requests have been filed with Enel, responsible for energy distribution in the neighborhood, since 7:30 pm on Sunday, the 29th, when the power went out, according to residents. Taciana also reported the long waiting time to restore the region’s electrical system. “Right when the switch went off, I called Enel. They said they would give priority, because it caught fire and that they were already sending a team. Initially, they gave a maximum deadline of up to 11:30 pm. Then, they said until 2am. Then, they said until 8am and now they said that they would send a team by 1:50pm. In other words, there is no concrete prediction. They claim that there are few cars on the street”, reported the therapist.

Neighborhood residents still complain that power has been going out for a week at least twice a day. Retired and also advisor to the residents’ association, Amigos do Parque Previdência (Amapa), Luiz Guilherme Bender, said he can no longer take the situation. “During the week, the electricity goes out for three minutes and comes back on. A terrible instability. Now, the food in the refrigerator at home will spoil.. There’s nothing to do. We already called, but they keep pushing the problem with their stomach.” When contacted by Jovem Pan, Enel said it was investigating the case, but did not provide further details about what happened or a deadline for restoring electricity.
