A scheme with fake TELK solutions was revealed in Tsar Kaloyan. With false documents, a hundred people from the city with the same diagnosis damaged the state budget by hundreds of thousands of BGN.
All this – at least for 18 years. No medical person has yet been held accountable.
A little over three thousand people live in Tsar Kaloyan. Suddenly a hundred of them, mostly men, began to suffer from varicose veins. With the decision of TELK, they received disability pensions and other social benefits.
Of course, there are no patients, there is only a drain on the state budget, and the scheme might have continued if the police in Razgrad had not checked the cases.
The most shocking are two elderly women who illegally took nearly BGN 100,000 from the state, BNT reported.
One of the women has indicated that she lives in this house. Her relatives know about the scheme. Neighbors too. We find the woman at another address in Tsar Kaloyan. She denies being involved in the popular Varicose Veins scheme.
“This false decision of TELK is presented to the Regional Office of Social Assistance, from where it has the audacity to receive one-year vignettes for driving a car completely free of charge,” said Tihomir Todorov, district prosecutor of Razgrad.
A doctor and another health worker were involved in the scheme with the fake TELC solutions. The documents lack handwriting, which complicates the investigation.
“While in other cases we present false documents to the doctors, in this case we have only one application to TELC. From there, some health worker gave the appearance of this decision, that it was an official document with a deadline, but because it was completely falsely, no deadline is indicated there, and in this way, this decision has been misused,” Tihomir Todorov added.
The unraveling of the cases came after some of the accused indicated other abusers.
“Once someone gets scalded, he starts talking to the neighborhood officer and the other policemen – but why only me, there is only one person who also has such a false decision, so nothing unusual in our geographical latitudes,” said district prosecutor Tihomir Todorov.
This type of crime is punishable by imprisonment for two to eight years.
