In Saint-Maur-des-Fossés (Val-de-Marne), the project of a funeral chamber is debated because of its installation in a residential area. The prefecture has already given its agreement but many inhabitants are against it and a online petition was launched in early February. It has collected more than 300 signatures to date. The municipality also opposes the project. An unfavorable opinion was given by the municipal majority on September 29. For the mayor (LR) Sylvain Berrios, this installation will cause “new nuisances for the neighborhood in the heart of a residential district”.
An appeal lodged
A burial chamber already exists in the city. Some would therefore like this new structure to be installed in another municipality, reports The Parisian. For the prefecture, it is necessary to respond to requests and recall that the other funeral chamber is saturated. In addition, a unanimous favorable opinion was given by the departmental council for the environment and health and technological risks.
The city filed an appeal against the prefectural decision. Still, the work would have started although no prior work authorization panel was affixed. A ticket was issued by the city to arrest them.
