The Sri Lankan Teachers’ Union has decided to carry out a protest in front of the Northern Province Governor’s Secretariat by emphasizing various demands.

The said protest will be held on Friday, December 9th after school closes at 2 pm.

This was stated by Sri Lankan Teachers Association Vice President Deepan Thileesan at a media conference held in Jaffna.

Malfunctions in the Ministry of Education

He further said, “We will take up the protest regarding the irregularities and malpractices found in the Northern Province Education Ministry and due to the lack of administrative leadership.

In December 2021, we submitted a 100-page complaint in accordance with the request of the Northern Province Governor regarding the irregularities in the education sector in the Northern Province.

An inquiry committee was appointed for it. The Secretary of the Ministry of Education of the Northern Province has been asked to submit a report on the said investigation, but it has not been submitted to us yet.

Doubt about the background

Even though it has been almost a year since the complaint was filed, the investigation has not been completed yet and we have doubts about its background.

Even after the start of the third term, the situation of the Northern Province Education Ministry and the Northern Province Education Department is so bad that they cannot conduct the second term examination.

At this stage, we will continue the protest by presenting various demands” – he said.
