Having become famous as a martial arts instructor for the actors of the famous saga, starting from “To win tomorrow”, the stuntman passed away on 5 November at the age of 84

Calling him only “the Karate Kid’s coach” doesn’t really do justice to the extraordinary career of Pat E. Johnson, who passed away on Sunday 5 November at the age of 84 from natural causes. This is because the well-known American stuntman created the fights and trained the actors of the famous saga that later gave him popularity (starting with «Karate Kid – To win tomorrow» in 1984), but he also worked as an instructor, stunt double and actor in around forty other films (the first was “The Dragon Dragon” with Bruce Lee in 1973), putting his skills in martial arts to good use (he was a ninth degree black belt in karate). Not enough, he taught at Chuck Norris’ karate school in Sherman Oaks and in 1993 was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the North American Sport Karate Association.

Johnson’s niece reported his death with a post on Facebook. «With sadness in my heart I share the news that my dear Uncle Pat passed away this Sunday morning – wrote Colleen Mary Johnson Summerville on her social page. He has been good to me since I was a little girl and sincerely loved my father Lloyd, his brother. Because of him, I have the most amazing woman in my life, my Aunt Sue, and I will always be grateful for that. Pat Johnson will always be legendary to many, including our family. Rest in peace Uncle Pat, you fought well…”

Among the moving memories of colleagues and friends, that of Ralph Macchio, the famous Daniel LaRusso of «Karate Kid», stands out, which he shared in a story on Instagram an old shot of him and Johnson training for the film. «Warm-up behind the scenes with the late, great martial arts master and one-of-a-kind friend, Pat Johnson. Rest in peace, legend.”
