Bangladesh Film Censor Board has been reconstituted a few days ago. But filmmakers and producers demanded reform of this 15-member committee. Film directors and producers raised this demand while talking to reporters at BFDC on Tuesday (September 17). They also demanded the Censor Certification Board.
Secretary General of Film Directors Association Shaheen Suman said, ‘All those who are in the newly formed Censor Board are talented and talented. But we have many senior directors, it would be nice to add them to this committee. I still believe that the certification board will be created. And if not, then it will be good for our films if we form a board including senior directors of our films in the censor board.’
Throwing several questions, actor Omar Sani said, ‘The Censor Board has been formed since the Pakistan period. I demand my life – we don’t want anything immoral in Bangladesh movies. We will not want films that are harmful to the country, harmful to people. Our film is confined to the same place. Five fights, five dances are in the same genre. Tried to change it in the past. It can’t be shown, it can’t be shown. How many viewers will see the same thing? If I can’t show good as good and bad as bad, then why will the audience watch it?’
Omar Sani does not know many members of the newly formed Censor Board. Referring to that, the actor said, ‘See, a lot of experience is required to be a member of the Censor Board. But I don’t know many of the current committee members of the Censor Board. It could also be my failure. I also have a kind of question to know why. We movie people don’t know. If it is the same as before, then what is the benefit of change or expansion? I dream that future films will be much better. Apart from the censor certification, cinema halls also need to be increased.
Samsul Alam, former general secretary of Film Producers Association, wants freedom of film. He said, ‘The Censor Board has been reorganized on the 15th. Our long standing demand, we don’t want censor board we want censor certification. Let us be graded. As far as I know, it was decided and notified in 2023. We want a creator to work independently with his talent. We want treason to be presented on the screen without any words and with modesty. We want freedom of film.’
Producer Samsul Alam is disappointed to see the committee of the newly formed Censor Board. In his words, ‘I am disappointed by the sensor board. Except two-four whose names I saw, one of them is a film producer. I don’t know him. A Malek Afsari movie, a Kazi Hayat movie should be considered who will decide whether it will run or not. My humble request to the Honorable Information Advisor, our long standing demand is that we do not want Censor Board, Censor Certification Board should be made. Please rate our movie. And those who will be in that gradation board should be acceptable people of film people. No one can question them. Has he made a movie, what is his contribution to the movie?’ Producer AJ Rana, film director Simon Tariq, director-producer Shimul etc. were also present at the time.
Meanwhile, two members of the new Censor Board, filmmaker Ashfaq Nipun and actor Kazi Nowshaba Ahmed, also spoke in favor of the certification law. Producer Nipun has already announced his withdrawal from the new committee due to his opposition to the Censor Board.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a notification reorganizing the Censor Board on September 15. Where Nipun and Nowshaba are kept as members of filmmaker Zakir Hossain Raju, Khizir Hayat Khan, Tasmia Afrin Mou, writer Mohammad Nazim Uddin and film producer Rafiqul Anwar Russell. In the reconstituted Censor Board, the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has been made the Chairman and the Vice Chairman of the Censor Board has been made the Member Secretary.
