Podemos proposes to veto in Congress “supposed media that spread hate and lies”

Podemos proposes a “progressive” Congress Presidency that removes the images of Juan Carlos I from the corridors of the Chamber and that sanctions the deputies who hide their heritage or prohibit the entry of “supposed media” that spread hate and lies. This is how sources from the formation led by Ione Belarra have made it known this Monday, when the key week for the constitution of the Congress Table begins, which will take place this coming Thursday.

In these negotiations, Podemos, which has five of the 31 deputies from the Sumar coalition led by Yolanda Díaz, proposes a series of measures to make Congress a “truly progressive” body. Thus, it proposes, in the first place, a reform of the regulation to “prohibit the indefinite extension of the period of partial amendments that has spuriously paralyzed” various legal initiatives in the last legislature, and points out as examples of this indefinite delay the health law mental, that of secret officials, or that of the ELA.

One of the measures included in the list released by Podemos would be to “not grant press accreditation to alleged media outlets that spread lies and hate speech.” This is a common complaint from the formation in the presence of groups that attend press conferences to burst them with their questions and that has already caused complaints to press associations.

It also proposes the “withdrawal of the paintings and busts of Juan Carlos I” from the corridors of Congress or a “stop on hate speech against feminists, migrants or the LGTBI collective, as well as the denial of sexist violence or of climate change”, although in this case it does not specify how this brake would be implemented.

It also proposes, through a reform of the regulation, that deputies “who refuse” to report on their “assets, income, incompatibilities or economic interests” be sanctioned in an “exemplary” way, as those of Vox did in the last legislature ”.

Finally, they ask that the necessary reforms be made to facilitate access for people with disabilities and that they be able to speak in their own and co-official languages.
