Yesterday, at 19:25, an incident occurred at the Khatai metro station in Baku: a passenger pressed the emergency stop button of the escalator, which led to its stop and the formation of a crush.

As Day.Az reports with reference to the press service of the Baku Metro, an investigation was conducted into the incident.

“To find out the reason for the stop of the escalator, the control panel was immediately checked. It was established that there were no technical problems, and the stop occurred due to the “Stop” button being pressed. After this, the operation of the escalator was restored,” the metro noted.

The press service also emphasized that the “Stop” button is intended for emergency stopping of the escalator in emergency situations, when it is really necessary.

The Baku Metro contacted the Metro Police Department to investigate the incident and take appropriate measures.

We remind you that unreasonably pressing the “Stop” button entails liability in accordance with Article 306.4 of the Code of Administrative Offences. This article provides for a fine of 50 manats for such actions as removing escalator railings, unreasonably using the Stop button, smoking in lobbies, passages and platforms, as well as other violations that threaten the safety of passengers.

The Metro urges passengers to follow safety rules and use escalators correctly, supervise children and avoid activities that could lead to accidents and injuries.

In addition, we remind you that throwing garbage onto the escalator, removing handrails or placing objects on the escalator is also an administrative offense for which liability is provided.
