The United Nations Support Mission in Libya announced an agreement with representatives of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State on the one hand, and a representative of the Presidential Council on the other hand, to resume consultations on the Central Bank of Libya at the mission’s headquarters in Tripoli.

The mission stated, via its official Facebook page, that it is continuing its intensive efforts with all parties concerned with the Central Bank of Libya.

The United Nations mission stressed that time is a crucial factor in reaching a consensual solution to the crisis and limiting its negative effects.

On September 3, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya announced that representatives of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State had reached important understandings regarding the crisis of the Central Bank of Libya, particularly regarding the mechanism and deadlines for appointing the governor and board of directors of the bank, following consultations hosted by the mission at its headquarters in Tripoli.

The mission explained that the representatives of the two councils requested an additional period of 5 days to complete their consultations and reach a final consensus on the necessary arrangements for managing the bank until a new governor and board of directors are appointed.

The mission reminded all Libyan parties of the negative impacts of the ongoing crisis in the Central Bank of Libya on the daily lives of citizens and on the confidence of international financial institutions in the Libyan banking system.

The UN mission also praised the atmosphere of cooperation that prevailed in the consultations with the two councils on the one hand and the representative of the Presidential Council on the other hand, calling at the same time on all parties to fulfill their obligations, refrain from any unilateral decisions and measures, and ensure that efforts are intensified to reach an agreement without delay.
